Motto: “Everyday Spaces”

The proposal is developed in one of the most unique blocks of the historic center of Seville as a result of its evolution over more than nine centuries to the present day. The conservation of the heritage of the block (Convent of Santa Clara, the Tower of Don Fadrique or the Singer Warehouse, among others) was confronted at various times in history with urban speculation and has been a latent concern since the beginning of the twentieth century. The intervention, in accordance with the Special Protection Plans, seeks to consolidate its current image in order to guarantee the memory of the many industrial uses that settled in this part of the city and in the Huertas del Convento, as well as the views of the Tower from the street and from the interior, recovering the prominence it historically had for the city.

In the proposal there is a strong will for the protection of the different traditional typologies that were shaping the city, among them, those of the domestic and industrial corrals that were established in large numbers in this part of the city. As an opportunity to preserve this heritage, it is proposed that both industrial buildings continue to be perceived as they were known until today, returning them to the city enriched with the introduction inside one of the models of traditional domestic architecture of the city, the corral, an example of collaborative life of popular origin and that also responds to a simple and rational spatial and constructive logic, like the industrial buildings of the historic center. The courtyard, a bioclimatic element par excellence of traditional Mediterranean architecture, is always presented as a support for daily life and collaborative or community life.

In the same way, the Patio and the Terrace are the common spaces par excellence because of their link with the domestic. In addition to the importance of providing lighting and ventilation is the place par excellence of the relationship, the game, the get-together, etc., an extension of the streets or squares themselves, and where the appearance of nature, vegetation, with its shadows, freshness, color and smells, is what finally allows to consider it qualified, livable and everyday.

With this structure, the accommodation is arranged inside in a classic way around the courtyard. Accommodations on the first floor allow for accessibility requirements, or to take advantage of the enjoyment of spaces linked to private patios or a more direct relationship with the street. On the second floor most of the accommodations are developed on two levels with the appearance of a mezzanine under the roofs, qualified with a greater spatiality and views on the outside.
